Antique Edwardian Old Cut Paste Sterling Silver Bow Wreath Drop Pendant Belle Epoque Lavalier Diamond Style Pendant c.1900
This stunning Antique Edwardian Lavalier Pendant features many sparkling Paste stones set in Sterling Silver, dating to circa.1900.
Paste is a type of glass which has been used since the 18th century.
During the 18th and early 19th century fine Diamond and precious stone jewellery was often part of the family heirloom therefore they would have replicas made from Paste to safeguard their heritage.
They would take their paste jewels to grand functions and to the party season in London where admirers wouldnt be able to know the difference.
This is now why Paste jewellery is still so highly sought after, as it was made with just the same amount of highly skilled craftsmanship as antique fine precious jewellery, so much so that it has become a collectors item.
Antique jewellers often set stones in closed back settings, just like this one.
These included foil backings under the gems to enhance their scintillation by candlelight.
The clear Paste stones glisten just like Diamonds making this a beautiful quality piece.
This pendant would make a perfect gift or a great addition to any collection.

CONDITION There appears to have been some repair work done to the back of the pendant (as pictured) but this doesnt affect the front.
I also believe there would have originally been a stone or drop hanging in the centre of the wreath which is now deficient.
