Antique Amber and Silver Pin Brooch by Carl M Cohr Denmark c1920
A silver pin brooch and a fine example of Sknvirke with the exquisite detail in the hammered silver and the simplicity of the central deep egg yolk coloured Amber.
Sknvirke translates as Beautiful Work and is the name applied to Danish jewellery with the same ethos of beauty and simplicity in design shared with the Arts Crafts and Art Nouveau movements.
The Sknvirke movement in Denmark encompassed the years 1900 to 1925
Diameter: 29mm Condition: Excellent, no sign of use.
Pin and clasp hook in good working condition.
The brooch is marked with the C.M.C monogram of the firm of Carl M.
Cohr and was made in Fredericia, Denmark in around 1918 to 1925.
The marks on the reverse are a hammer in the centre and D and A on either side of it inside a shield and the initials of the silver designer Carl M Cohr in entwined script.
Cohr died in 1925.
The letters D and A are for Dansk Arbejde which was a private and independent association founded in 1908 to promote Danish products.
